The Huntsville Art Blog is for Artists and the TN Valley community to get the most current information about the Huntsville art scene and opportunities.
The Huntsville Art Blog was create Alissa & Austin Ramsay to simply "Promote Local Artists and Art Awareness". The blog grew faster than they expected and they soon could keep up with the entries! Gina Hurst came to the rescue and essentially took the site over. In a few years, the Huntsville Art Blog has become a meeting point of various art groups and welcome ALL artists.

Why Wallpaper? Stencil Instead!
From Alissa:
I have always LOVED wallpaper stencils! The look, the feel, the endless possibilities you can achieve with this technique/finish. We have used all brands of stencils to achieve an all over patter.
Three of my personal favorite places to purchase UNIQUE stencils are:
http://www.wallovers.com/index.html (all wallpaper style designs)
http://www.modellodesigns.com/ (one-time use stencils)
http://www.stencil-library.com/ (shop across the pond... LOVE LOVE LOVE them!)
Venetian Plaster and Other Italian Plaster Techniques
Average To Art and owner Alissa (Murnane) Ramsay call Huntsville, Alabama home, but their Italian plaster techniques are internationally recognized. In 2008, Alissa won an international award for an original plaster finish, as well as, trained with the Masters in Italy. There are many products on the market in local box stores that are “Venetian Plaster” but are difficult to work with and produce inferior results. For a few extra dollars, decorative finishers and DIYers can invest in quality products with beautiful results that will LAST.
Some of our favorite green products below:
Oikos’ Ottocento (shimmer)
Oikos’ Kreos (more of a coarse texture great for Linen techniques)
“Lime Butter” ("easy" yet authentic Venetian Plaster)
Instead of the usual wax to seal a Venetian Plaster, use Bees Wax.
All of the products above give superior results, have a fresh smell and are VOC free. For Alissa, her body would swell after working with products heavy in “toxins”. Once she switched to working only in Green products her body responded more positively. If you need assistance ordering green products or with a finish technique, please contact Alissa 256.658.0657
