Girls Incorporated of Huntsville educates and empowers girls, at a critical time in their lives to become confident, self-sufficient and successful through outcome-based, health, technical and life-skills training, thus inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold!
Over 60% of girls currently enrolled in our program are on scholarship assistance. We need your support so that we may continue to work of inspiring our girls to be strong, smart and bold. The stakes are too high to let even one girl fall through the crack without realizing her potential.

Girls Inc Mural Day 2

Josie and the girls visited our cabin mural at Huntsville Hospital Women and Children. We had a lot of fun. The hospital was very kind and provided the girls some lemonade and cookies. Cassie Scott from the Chamber and Sharon Steelman from Bamma Jammer joined us.

We had some play time and a questions and answer session for the girls to learn more about our careers and businesses.

Girls Inc Mural Day 1

Josie Murakaru is a fabulous program director for 5th and 6th young ladies. She is also in my Connect 9 education group. Josie invited me to do a project with the girls, exposing them to a creative business, and then they would take a field trip to one of our murals.
What we came up with was a mural "puzzle". I put up blank poster boards, painted the design in black, then took the individual posterboards for the girls to paint. My only direction was not to paint over the black lines. They didn't know what the final mural would be and you can see the results below.
Girls inc inspires girls to be strong, smart and bold. Can you see those words in their mural?

Blast From The Past!

I was going through our work from 2006. This travel mural was one of our first full room projects as a team. The clients for this project are still one of our favorites and their son was so much fun!

Huntsville Hospital Mural (In Women and Children)

The new play room is not finished yet, but the murals are finished! This has been a fun process. Thank you to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation for giving us an open ended schedule. Cindy just had Nick, Alissa has physical restrictions, and Skip picked up the slack. It was great to work as a team again and enjoy each other's company. We challenged ourselves and feel like we were successful in many ways! Take a look...

Huntsville Hospital Kid's Kamp Mural Phase II

We were excited to receive the call from Huntsville Hospital Foundation (HHF) letting us know they were expanding Kid’s Kamp to an indoor play room. We painted a large exterior camp themed mural for HHF in Spring 2007 and started their interior cabin themed mural this month. As always, the Huntsville Hospital and HHF staff are a pleasure to work for and with.

Below are photos from our first week on the job:

From Alissa:
On a personal note, I have had to take a step back from the business because my health has not been well for some time. We finally found the culprit, have been taking action and the results have been amazing! I still have to take it slow and learn about a new way of life; Nevertheless, health is a gift and the HHF mural is the perfect welcome back present!

In Love... with "Larger Than Life" stencils!

Stencil-Library.com has been my favorite stencil site to browse for years. Average To Art artists do not typically paint many stencils for our Huntsville, AL clients, BUT it is always to fun to see what is new from across the pond.
Two examples fron the "larger than life" section:

FIREWORKSlarge 68 x 16 " (1727 x 406 mm)

standard52 x 12 " (1320 x 304 mm)

DANDELIONlarge 68 x 16 " (1727 x 406 mm)

standard52 x 12 " (1320 x 304 mm)

Stencil-Library.com has Traditional, Vintage, Contemporary and SO many more styles of stencils. I love big and bold shapes, so these new stencils "speak to me".

Work In Progress

As I was going through photos for today's posts, I came across some working photos of the old Average To Art crew. Health issues have paused Average To Art's instillation abilities, but the memories of the past year are special!

2008 was a record year for the company and it was because of our wonderful clients and dedicated staff/artists!

(Above) Average To Art's owner and principal artist, Alissa (Murnane) Ramsay, multi-tasking as usual. The art of business at work!

(Below) Michele, dedicated to her job, applying the plaster wherever it is needed.

“Venetian Plaster” in Madison, AL

Average To Art completed this project many months ago in a new construction home in Madison, AL. Our client has moved in and is enjoying her new home with "Venetian Plaster" walls. It was difficult to capture this finish on our camera, but hopefully you can get the feel of the beautiful finish... one of our favorites! See the Before and After photos below.

Oikos' Italian Shimmer Finish: Ottocento

Our client in Madison, AL LOVES purple! When she built her new home she knew she wanted a purple master bathroom and bedroom. Alissa Ramsay had trained in Italy (Sept. 2008) with a product called Ottocento from Oikos. Our client fell in love with the product and selected the perfect shade of purple. See the before and after photos below.
